Hypersonic Systems

Everything in the world is moving faster year by year.  From our internet connectivity to our cars to our aircraft, the pace is quickening.  This is very evident as countries around the world are racing to develop ever faster weapons and defense systems.  As these speedy systems maturing, their capabilities are rapidly expanding.

Vivace is supporting development of these systems through innovative propulsion system components that meet the challenging requirements of this extreme atmospheric flight regime.  National defense and similar critical applications mean these systems need to be eminently reliable and on-time, every time.

Vivace’s hypersonic flight system components also must meet human rating requirements due to the potential for human interaction pre-launch.  Our team has an exceptional depth of experience in providing solutions for these important programs and is currently supporting operations of multiple flight systems.

Vivace Capabilities

Cryogenic Propellent Tanks

  • Vivace has delivered cryogenic propellant tanks as small as 0.6 meters (2 feet) in diameter supporting hypersonic systems.
  • Liquid fueled hypersonic systems require complex Propellant Management Devices (PMDs) to control fluid motion during flight.  Vivace has the capabilities to evaluate and design for these conditions and has flight heritage
  • Vivace has the capability to build common bulkhead configuration cryogenic propellant tanks as well, and has designed, built, tested, and delivered common bulkhead tanks up to 3.8 meters (12.5 feet) in diameter.

COPV Pressurant Tanks

  • Vivace provides Composite Overwrapped high performance pressurant tanks that meet the requirements for human spaceflight, making them safe for close proximity human interaction on hypersonic missions.  These tanks meet stringent Leak Before Burst (LBB) and Damage Tolerance (DT) requirements along with NASA Review Board approval requirements.
  • Composite Overwrapped pressurant tanks are primarily used in environmental control and life support systems, but tanks used for propulsion system, attitude control, and other functions on human rated missions must all the meet the same safety requirements.
  • Vivace produces pressurant tanks rated to operate up to 10,000 psi (690 bar)
